IMPRINT
MEMORY IS AN IMPRINT. A FADED RECONSTRUCTION. THE SHAPE OF WHAT HAS BEEN.
Imprint by Gabrielle Leah New is a time based installation that develops progressively over a series of performance events.
Imprint explores the process of memory, its malleability and its decay over time until only the shape remains.
What People Said:
“I liked your work made me think a lot about how we consume art and culture and the relationship of performer to viewer and time and history and memory and how we construct memory in much the same way as we construct culture and relationships… .. ooh I had a good ride in the rain after seeing you ” Jeanne Cameron
“I enjoyed watching your performance, the gentle whiteness and methodical wrapping was rather soothing and other worldly, it made me want to sit in it! ” Camilla Gough
” … Silently and slowly, moving around the small area, she began to wrap all the stuffs with white paper….. ghostlike movements from the street … Are memories something to be packed up and then disappear? They are still there, only incompletely covered by thin paper….Lonely and futile, life, memory and her title ‘Imprint’.” Jaedon Shin
