The amazing group of 10 Artists that I support through Arts Access have their first Gallery exhibition which opened on Sunday at Oakhill Gallery in Mornington and is open until Augist 28th
‘See Me’ comprises two bodies of work, both of which talk to ideas about seeing beyond the surface to what is precious and unique within all individuals.
The Collage Portraits of the artists really showcase their individual styles and personalities. The black and white photos which represent the external, superficial side have been uniquely collaged with colourful pictures of the artist’s work and images found by them to offer the viewer more about what lies beyond the surface.
The ‘Precious’s’ are intimate golden ceramic sculptures, each piece a one-off individual. You are invited to hold these gently in your hand and experience the beauty in the diversity of these small gems.
When discussing what this exhibition meant to the Artists, one started to talk about historic bullying and discrimination which many of the group echoed. Through this exhibition the Artists hope to open discussions about the value and importance of diversity in our community.
It has been a joy developing and curating this exhibition with them.
That’s great, nice project. Great to hear what you’re doing Xx Vanessa
